Frequently Asked Questions
Why do my beeswax wraps look yellow?
Baldwin Bee's Wraps only use pure 100% organic beeswax. Our wax is all harvested locally or from small apiaries in the United States. Pure untreated beeswax will vary in color from a very pale yellow, to a strong yellow or even brownish color. The color of the wax depends on the region it was harvested, time of year, and what the bees were foraging on at the time. If you see pure white beeswax it has been chemically altered to remove the color.
Why is there a white residue or my beeswax wraps look faded?
When beeswax is subjected to temperature extremes (not room temperature) bloom will occur. This will happen often during shipping in extreme cold or heat. You will also see bloom occur if your wrap is older or you have stored it without use for a extended period of time. Bloom is a natural, harmless, powdery film that indicates the beeswax is pure. It occurs when the natural oils in the wax come to the surface and can be easily wiped off with a soft cloth or buffed away with a hairdryer if a shiny finish is preferred. Remember bloom is a good thing! It means your are getting natural products.
Are all of your materials and ingredients organic?
Yes, Baldwin Bee's Wraps uses specific fabrics and ingredients to insure you are only getting the best products available to you. All ingredients used to infuse our beeswax wraps are sourced in the United States. We buy all of our fabrics small batch from small business to support local and small businesses throughout the United States. Any fabric not organic will state so on that specific product.
How will I know when my beeswax wraps needs refreshed or the life of it has ended?
When your find that your wrap is not sticking at all it may be time to refresh it. Lay a towel on a solid surface then with 2 sheets of wax paper lay your wrap between them and using a iron warm the wrap just enough to see the wax melt. Immediately remove the wrap from the wax paper by the corners and hold upright for about 1 minute to re-cure. If you have found that your wraps is no longer sticking and feels like a normal piece of fabric again, you have reached the end of the life of the wrap. Wraps do not need to be refreshed often, typically only 3-6 months or if they have been subjected to heavy washing or warm or hot water. Typically our wraps will last 1 year, but many longer if you take proper care of them.
Do i need to wash my beeswax wrap all the time?
No you do not need to wash your beeswax wrap every time. We only recommend washing them if they get soiled. Most of the time your wraps can just be dusted off or rinsed with cold water. Beeswax has natural anti-microbial properties.
How should i dispose of my beeswax wrap?
While you may throw away your beeswax wrap, we strongly discourage it. Our wraps are made to be environmentally friendly, we encourage you to compost your wraps or use them as a fire starter.
Fridge and Freezer Safe
Make sure food and containers are completely cool before wrapping to prevent melting the beeswax.
